Dead Space – Ride The Spaceship To Hell

Let's admit it. Electronic Arts isn't really known for putting out genre-defining games. In fact, EA is famous for exactly the reverse: amateurish games which were once thought of as assured success.

For Holiday, 2008, still, EA might very well have the premium release of a new and fresh name in its current record since becoming an almost-monopoly.

I'm referring about Dead Space, an endurance horror game like no other.

Truly, there have been survival horror games in advance. Alone in the Dark, certainly, devised the genre. Resident Evil and its other installments polished and perfected this forte. The Silent Hill cycles took it for a spin and established the idea of mental horror, which was sent to the advanced height by games like Fatal Frame.

So what maked Dead Space any different?

First and foremost, Dead Space doesn't occur in an old neglected house or a city ransacked by newly-made monsters.

Dead Space materializes in, where else, space.

Visualize Alien. Visualize Sigourney Weaver being pursued by the brood in a rocketship that has been deprived of Imagine this automation honed to a tee.

Think of mad, transformed, and total wicked crewmembers replacing aliens. Imagine natural, untainted vileness straight from the bowels of hell. Visualize a single navy having to fend of these horrible forces. Think of monstrous creatures and even more bizzare scenarios.

It's the threatening hostility and the haunting dread that makes Dead Space the upcoming radical step in the survival horror genre.

Definitely, we shouldn't forget about the gigantic, commanding firearms, the copious serving of violence, and the diversity of dismembered body parts.

Dead Space is believed to be so fiece that it had to go through a few patch ups solely to get a tolerable M ranking from the ESRB. Its planned box art, a picture of a dismembered body part floating in space and an accolade to the mutilated finger that was utilized in the posters for the film Saw, has been met with so much condemnation that an alternative box art is being designed.

With the release of Dead Space, the survival horror variety will never be the same again. As the introductory assertion in Star Trek goes, "to go where no man has gone before."

Well, Dead Space will go where no survival horror game has dared gamble before.

And we'll be present for one hell of a ride, literally speaking that is.
